Glacial Till Farm is not offering CSA shares at this time. We do plan to participate in the Local Foods Coop that is forming in the Brookings area. Keep checking back for more updates.
Here is a low-resolution version of the CSA brochure.
You will find current newsletters and other relevant CSA information here in the future.
What is the Glacial Till Farm CSA :
First of all, you should know what a CSA is. Community Supported Agriculture is many things to many people, but in general it is simply a way for consumers to interact directly with producers to obtain food or other products. The consumer enters into an agreement with a farm to purchase a "share" of that farm's harvest, which is then supplied by the farm throughout the season.
At Glacial Till Farm, we offer the consumer two choices in the size of their share. Full shares are meant for families or groups of four or more people that eat produce on a regular basis or two people that are vegetarian. The smaller partial share is meant for a family or group of two that eats produce regularly or one vegetarian.
When is the season :
Our growing season starts even before the ground thaws as we plant seedlings under lights indoors. However, you should plan to begin thinking about the CSA in January and February, as this is when we first offer shares. Preference is given to current members, then prior members not active in the last growing season and finally to new potential members. Because we care so much about the quality of the produce we place strict limits on the size of our CSA and that means shares go fast! We will announce an interest meeting in January. If you would like to be notified of the meeting, please just contact us.
The produce deliveries begin in mid-June and continue weekly until October. If the weather cooperates you will get as many as twenty or even twenty-one deliveries, but you should count on at least eighteen deliveries. Your share will be available once a week at Cottonwood Coffee in Downtown Brookings.
What is in a share:
Our shares vary greatly from spring to fall, but they are always interesting and always delicious. The year usually starts with stunning arrays of leafy greens, radishes and other early root crops. As the summer heat begins you will see a shift in your share to more substantial vegetables such as garlic, carrots and new potatoes. At the height of the season you will practically drown in the bounty of tomatoes, peppers, melons and other wonderful treats. And finally, as the fall begins to set in, you will receive storage crops to accompany you into winter.
What does it cost to join:
We have not yet finalized prices for 2008 shares. However, we feel we offer an incredible value, especially when considered across the entire eighteen to twenty week season. We also offer entirely flexible payment options (although prepayment is preferred) and working shares.
